Adam Lambert slays ‘em, but what’s up with Scott MacIntyre’s pink pants?!
Adam Lambert’s Elvis look was drop-dead gorgeous, Megan Joy Corkery looked stunning in sapphire blue, and Anoop Desai stayed preppy — but the mystery over Scott MacIntyre’s pink pants may have stolen the fashion spotlight on “Idol.”
It’s raining men on “American Idol.” Seven of the remaining 10 finalists are of the male persuasion, and the show’s stylists are trying to help the boyish “Idol” wannabes differentiate themselves from one another with mixed results.
Highest marks on all levels to Adam Lambert, who went modern-day Elvis in a well-tailored silvery suit, black shirt and matching handkerchief. With his slicked back hair, and the absence of black nail polish and guyliner, well, he was drop-dead gorgeous and still maintained his aura of hip.
In the preppy department, Anoop Desai opted for clean-cut in a baseball jacket, layered sweater and shirt with tie and blue jeans…wholesome. Matt Giraud did neat in a tonal patterned navy cardigan, blue shirt and skinny tie with tight jeans. Both ensembles fit the personalities.
Unfortunately, like him as we do, Kris Allen was a tad Village People in his military-esque shirt that featured serial numbers, camouflage patterns, daggers…yikes! Worn with the token skinny tie, it was so distracting, and at odds with his song choice, “How Sweet It Is.” Not.
Poor Scott MacIntyre in peach paisley shirt, brown pinstriped jacket, and eek, pink pants. Not his fault. He told Ryan Seacrest that he didn’t even know he was wearing them until 10 minutes before he was up. Shame on the stylists.
We were not wild about Danny Gokey’s shirt that looked splattered by a paint gun – but it wasn’t extraordinary – just kind of blah as was Michael Sarver’s blazer, shirt and jeans ensemble.
The gals looked great across the board. Megan Joy Corkrey’s poor vocals did not live up to her stunning appearance, this time a strapless silk bubble mini dress in sapphire blue printed with bright flowers. Lil Rounds got fringe benefits from her fringed spaghetti strap dress – perfect for the Motown moment – and flattering to boot. That girl has great gams.
But, we most appreciated 16-year-old Allison Iraheta’s transformation, not to mention her killer performance. Gone are the drab rocker duds. Instead, a bright blue dress adorned with chains, white jacket and lacy leggings. Definitely not mainstream, but just perfect for the big-voiced teen, and girlish to boot.
Oh, and we’d be remiss not to mention the accessory of the night: Paula’s arty mustache drawn on her face by Simon. Not a great look, but we admire Paula’s control. She wanted to tell him where to go.
