New Moon’ fashion collection
New Moon collection, which will hit stores in October. We’re talking T-shirts (supercute if you really don’t mind broadcasting that you’re a Twi-hard), jewelry, jackets, etc. Personally, I don’t foresee buying anything unless that life-size cutout of Robert Pattinson sporting a sharp suit is for sale. What? I’m just saying that I have space in my office and that he would help balance out the wall that already bears a 3-foot-tall framed reproduction of EW “Buffy’s back!” cover and a tiny-by-comparison Talladega Nights clock. Also, it might be fun for about a week to blow him a kiss goodbye like I was Laverne & Shirley and he was a Beatles poster.
Which would you be more likely to purchase: A Twilight T-shirt or a Pattinson cutout? I doubt Nordstrom will be selling them, but I hope that after reading my/our enthusiasm, stores will see the attention-getting benefit of having, say, five of them on the floor to draw customers in for cellphone photo ops. I do pity the employee whose job will become body-guarding them though.
P.S. As there are no bare biceps, I cannot, in good conscience, add the Taylor Lautner Bicep Watch category to this post, but I will mention that InStyle.com is also already teasing their December issue Man of Style feature with the actor. A life-size cutout of Lautner in this leather jacket, Nordstrom. Think about it.
white For summer heat
For summer heat, white is a good fashion choice for both comfort and visual impact
When it comes to fashion and color, black gets all the accolades, and white gets all the grief.
Black is the go-to hue for every skin tone and every occasion. It makes cheap fabrics look better; it makes hips look slimmer; it is arguably the alpha and omega of the color spectrum. White might make you look bigger; it might stain; it can be too see-through; and it can look cheap.
The conventional wisdom: When in doubt, wear black.
Yet, the palest of color continues its intrepid attempt to outshine black’s allure. Now that we’re past that outdated Memorial Day rule and a fair space from Labor Day, it’s time for white to step into the sunlight.
Sure, the basic white tee remains a closet staple alongside the beloved little black dress, but this year, it’s all about the white pant. If you don’t have a pair of white jeans, shorts and capris, get thee to the mall.
“I always hear the same thing when I try to encourage people to buy a pair of white pants or a jacket: ‘I’m afraid of white,’ ” says Gini Linnabery Swancy of Anatomy of Style boutique in St. Louis, which specializes in wardrobe consulting. She uses her retail pulpit to preach the virtues of white.
Swancy tries to convince people that white is flattering, washable, dressy, casual and stunning. Nothing makes vibrant colors pop quite like a white backdrop, she says.
White ensembles can look wispy and romantic or structured and refined. The color can be eminiscent of desert safaris or rose garden soirees. White can be ethereal, and it can be something black can never aspire to: being the coolest thing in your closet.
Mary-Kate and Ashle members of the CFDA
The 23-year-old mini-mogul, along with twin sister Ashley, joins New York-based designers Alexander Wang and Jason Wu as some of the newest members of the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
The Olsens were among 31 designers inducted into the couture cathedral this year. “We are proud to welcome these 31 new members into the CFDA family and we are excited to add such a variety of creative talent to our ranks,” CFDA executive director Steven Kolb said in the Tuesday announcement.
The twins are honored for their clothing lines, Elizabeth and James (named for the twins’ sister and brother), and The Row, a high-end fashion line inspired by London’s Savile Row. The nod is a sign of respect among the industry, which normally frowns upon celebrities making a second career as designers.
The ladies may have CFDA president Diane Von Furstenberg to thank directly for the honor.
Furstenberg dressed the attention-grabbing pair for The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala last year.
